Roni Bader-Tables will be on hand to demonstrate wire wrapping for your own unique piece of artwork and jewelry. RBT Designs is focused on providing high-quality service and customer satisfaction.  Roni mixes style, vintage elements, sparkle and gemstones to make unique and original jewelry creations.

Carly Quinn will be demonstrating the “life cycle” of a hand made tile.  You will be able to see a handmade tile as it goes through the process of becoming an art work. February 2012  Digital Storytelling Workshop

Take the time to tell your story in 2012!

Participants learn how to find, tell, create, and publish an autobiographical digital story in an creative environment. Beginning with a story circle, you will share stories, write and record narration, choose photos, video clips, and music, and learn to edit a short digital video of your own true story. The stories can be used for personal enrichment, family life histories, community and team building, training, advocacy, recruiting, fundraising and technology literacy.

At the end of the four-day workshop you will have a 2-3 minute digital story.

Instructor: Bob Demers

Learn everything you need to know to start exploring studio flash photography. We will use simple portrait lighting to demonstrate the technique and technology of effective studio lighting. You will learn about lighting ratios, color balance, incidence and the qualities of light. You will learn tricks of the trade, and how to start putting together your lighting package. We will be using a 3 monobloc package of Alien Bees flash units and the Canon 7D. Don’t know what monobloc means? Join us to find out.

Photographing Your Artwork – 3D*
High Quality Digital Images for Reproduction

Arts Marketplace Studio will be hosting a one day fine art reproduction photography session for local artists. This is your chance to have your 3D creations professionally photographed by Bob Demers, photographer and image acquisition specialist.

Your work will be meticulously lit, digitally photographed and output to one high-resolution tiff file suitable for reproduction, and one compressed jpg file ideal for email and web use. Each file will be corrected for the ultimate in original color and tone fidelity.

Price per item for photography and image output is $25, with a minimum of 3 items per artist.

Artwork to be photographed is limited to items no larger than 60”x60”x60”; if it can fit into a 5 foot square box, we can photograph it. Small items like jewelry and pottery are also welcome. Image files on CD will be available for pickup in 5 business days.

Cost: $25, with a minimum of 3 items per artist.             *as opposed to flat work; no funky glasses required.

Make the leap to video using your DSLR. We will show you everything you need to know to start shooting professional video with your DSLR camera. We will explore settings, picture profiles, sound options, accessories and techniques for obtaining expert results with your DSLR. We’ll take a look at software to put it all together and give you the edge with your video. We will be using the legendary Canon 7d, along with Rhode mics, M-Audio CF recorders and more.

Arts Marketplace Gallery Exhibition: Linda Chappel, “Recollections”

Arts Marketplace is excited to announce a solo exhibit for Linda Chappel.

“Recollections” is centered on the theme of recalling how the relationships to the natural world led to our survival as a species.  Our relationship with the natural world is constantly shifting and changing over time and over geography…the visual arts of other cultures is a record of this relationship.  As an artist I recollect and create yet another visual image of these myths forming a  connection to these past artists and the natural world.

Digital storytelling has a new home at Arts Marketplace, in the Warehouse Arts District. We will be teaching Digital Storytelling Workshops on a regular basis at Arts Marketplace, 403 N. 6th Ave., Tucson, AZ.

At the end of your four-day workshop you will have a 3-5 minute digital story centered on your personal story. Participants are given materials prior to the workshop to assist them in preparation, including important resources, reading, and suggestions for story ideas, images, and use of video clips.

Workshop participants tell, write and record a narrative, choose photos, video clips, and music, and learn to edit a short digital video of their own true story. These stories can be used for personal enrichment, family life histories, community building, training, advocacy, recruiting, fundraising and technology literacy.

All workshops are four full days from 9 AM – 5 PM.

Arts Marketplace is excited to announce our latest showcase for artists who champion our mission through their generous donations.

An explosive variety of mediums being displayed will include Stephen Derks “recycled junkyard” metal sculptures. As he describes, “I walk around alone looking at forlorn piles of bent, twisted and rusted metal all over the place.”

Other displayed works will include photography, paintings, and sculptures.   Local artists featured: Kyle Johnston, Theresa Dietz, Ruben Moreno, Lee Roy Beach, Bryan Crow, Peter Eisner, Nina Duckett and many others.

ArtSTARS artwork is available for purchase and 100% of the proceeds will support programs that advance professional development, mentoring, networking and money management for artists.

Crafted reopens June 4th for the summer – Featuring contemporary crafts from regional and national artisans celebrating the DIY Handmade movement.

Sunday, March 27th -  Wild About Art & Wildflower Fundraiser, Noon to 4 PM

Join for a family fun day incorporating spring, learn about native plants and local products in downtown Tucson at Arts Marketplace.  The festival is our spring fundraiser for the courtyard at the historic CO Brown house.  Refreshments and snacks available.

We have a program filled with garden activities coinciding with the new Crafted “In the garden” theme for handpicked hand-made local products, plants and gifts.  A percentage of all sales from Crafted will benefit the revival of the CO Brown courtyard. Learn about sustainable agriculture of the southwest from SEEDS TRUST.    Activities include: seed planting for the kids, traditional paper flower-making workshop for your fun and amusement. Try your luck on our famous raffle basket – filled with local only products and treats.   You will also have the opportunity to tell, record, share, and preserve the stories of your life at our digital storytelling kiosk.

Education Travel & Culture (ETC) is a non-profit [501(c)(3)] educational exchange organization. Its purpose is to promote international understanding and goodwill by providing high quality educational and cultural exchange programs in the United States and abroad.  “Come get a taste of the world in your own backyard! ETC high-school exchange students from eight different countries will be serving desserts from their homelands under the Tucson stars. Enjoy cultural presentations from Asian, European, and Latin American students and learn what life is like as a student from another country. If you’ve ever considered hosting an exchange student or sending your own child abroad, you won’t want to miss this opportunity for the whole family. International Dessert Night will be held at the charmingly historic Arts Marketplace, downtown on Thursday, November 4th, at 7 p.m.

Sunday, November 14th -  Altered Book Workshop

“No Rules” Inspiration on paper but, glue and dream.  “Drop in” for the altered book workshop on 2nd Sundays 1-4. An altered book is any book, old or new that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art. Altering can include painting, embossing, collaging, and rubber stamping individual pages.

Participation involves gathering once a month (2nd Sunday) from 1pm – 4pm to work on your books and share ideas and inspiration. Refreshments, and the opportunity to gather with creative people in a supportive and inspired space.

Monday, November 15th , 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Ladies of Tucson, come join Arts Marketplace and the editors and writers of Chicken-Scratch Editing for a night of writing and long-term planning. We’ll discuss writing topics and strategies, as well as the possibility of starting Tucson’s very own women’s weekly writing circle. Saturday, October 9th -  Arts Marketplace Exhibit “Goddard Got Art”

The political committee, Goddard’s Got Art!, will sponsor evening entertainment and celebration and exhibit five artists who received a $1,000 grant to produce works that support Terry Goddard’s campaign for Governor.  These talented artists were chosen from a group of 15 proposals that were all engaging and exciting and ranged from paintings to performance pieces to videos to poetry.  Artists: Marcus Deleon (video) This feature film director and award-nominated screenwriter; James L. Covarrubias (2-D) Jim is a native Arizonan and US Army Veteran who is the vice president for the Latino Arts Consortium; Shannon Cain (performance); Joanne Kerrihard (2-D or 3-D); and Marrianne Dissard (video) Singer, filmmaker and performance artist.  Entertainment, exhibit and celebration 5 PM – 9 PM

Our next monthly workshop will be hosted by Kurt Tallis, Event Director 4th Avenue Street Fairs. The open forum discussion will answer:  What makes participating artists successful?  How can an artist get into the Fair? Where does the money go?  What are the facts of the jury process? What works? What are Fairs looking for? What is ZAPP? And weird tales from the back side of 4th Avenue.  Our meetings begin with a potluck; please bring a dish to share! (1st Monday every month)

Monday, August 2nd – Community Workshop: “Secretary of State’s Resources”

Our next monthly workshop will focus on the A, B, C’s of registering your business in Arizona.  Yvette Lopez is the manager of the Southern Arizona Office of the Arizona Secretary of State. She will help to simplify the process and information needed for proper completion of trade names and trademarks. Ms. Lopez also serves as a notary instructor with the Secretary of State and provides notary workshops in the Tucson area each month.

Our meetings begin with a potluck; please bring a dish to share! KingFisher resturant will provide in-kind support for this meeting.

Saturday, August 14th : 2nd Saturday Night Downtown  – ArtSTARS Exhibit

Arts Marketplace is excited to announce a showcase for artists who champion our mission through their generous donations.  An explosive variety of mediums being displayed will include Stephen Derks “recycled junkyard” metal sculptures. As he describes, “I walk around alone looking at forlorn piles of bent, twisted and rusted metal all over the place.”

Other displayed works will include photography, paintings, and sculptures.   Local artists featured: Kyle Johnston, Sam Ace, Lee Roy Beach, Bryan Crow, Peter Eisner and many others.

ArtSTARS artwork is available for purchase and 100% of the proceeds will support programs that advance professional development, mentoring, networking and money management for artists.

August Gallery Hours:   Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 12:00 – 5:00pm (or call for an appointment)
